I have found the whole process much better than I anticipated at the start. It has been both enjoyable and helpful. The reason I found it particularly helpful is that when you are in a senior position or running a business there is normally no where you can take a problem to find a sounding board. Often, you can’t or don’t want to bring it home. It generally is not appropriate to discuss in the work place as it will involve those people around you. So to have a peer group of experienced, supportive but critical colleagues, directed and lead by a facilitator, has been a great process.

The sessions forced me to look and think about things I had been putting off. I am addressing these issues now. The one-to-ones were useful. It made me look at my business differently and identify actions that need to be taken.

I would highly recommend anyone serious about developing their business to get involved in a Peer Network Cohort. It’s a commitment that is worthwhile and I have thoroughly enjoyed taking part. Even though each business owner is working in very different industries, business is business and sharing is very powerful. Despite having worked in the corporate world for over two decades, and having attended no end of management courses, it was clear that I had forgotten some of the simple techniques that can be employed to approach challenges more effectively to active better outcomes. The sessions with Nick not only refreshed my memory, but he was also great at helping me to practically apply them to our situation. I have since shared the output from the sessions with my colleague, and it is helping her in her role too.

Following your referral, I have had two 1-1s as well as attending workshops. My adviser is very knowledgeable and skilled. The workshops are helpful too.  I like the way the simple delivery with material which I can apply to my business, and the fact that I can email or call them too as I like to peak to someone.

I had an issue with identifying the challenges with my business. My first conversation with Sue I had to think long and hard of what my business needed. After this Sue found the help I needed and sent an email with all the information I needed to help my business. I contacted all the companies and I’m now in the process of getting help for my business which is amazing and I’m excited for the progress my business is taking as my business took a huge dive during COVID-19. I’m extremely optimistic for the rest of year.

The best thing about the Peer Networks experience was listening to the other participants’ issues. We all run disparate businesses but have similar problems and opportunities. The sessions enabled us to cross-fertilise ideas on handling the pressure of limited time while growing. The programme challenged me to shut up and listen. Because of the format, there is no opportunity to talk over people. Instead, I could reflect on what they were saying, what I would do if I were them, and what I could bring back to my businesses.

I was a little bit concerned whether this would be a positive programme, but I found to my surprise and delight that dealing with like-minded professionals with the same type of issues that I face, was a very rewarding and positive step. I guess it is very good to share and your approach of making the individual think about the issues using collaborative thought was inspiring. I have certainly gained good knowledge from this and particular from the additional work that Nigel provided, and his marketing experience was also gratefully received.
